Protect Your Heart: Wear Your Watch on the Right Wrist

Belly rings look harmless. But a few years ago, plagued with back pain, I sought a massage from a woman who happened to be a Chinese Medicine specialist. As I was in a deep trance, swept away by the background Enya music and fragrant oils, she surprised me by pointing to my bejeweled belly ring and saying, "this metal is interfering with your meridians and causing your pain."

I thought she was full of it, and my Western-trained mind promptly ignored her. However, weeks later, after suffering continued back pain and chronic crankiness, I took the belly ring out.

My back pain miraculously disappeared. So began my respect for the ancient practice of Chinese Medicine.

Just like my metal belly ring affected my stomach meridian and caused me pain, your metal wristwatch is influencing your heart meridian, and doing damage. But before you throw out your precious Rolex watch, or your specialized mom watch, or your prized nurse watch , read what health experts advise.

The Problem
Alternative doctors trained in traditional Chinese Medicine know the importance of not disturbing the body's meridians. What is a meridian? The body has fourteen major organs, each with its own meridian. The meridian is a line of energy extending from each organ, and illness occurs when that line of energy is disturbed. The meridians are particularly sensitive and unnaturally altered by radiation, metals and magnets. Some people are so acutely aware of their body's meridians that just by wearing a metal ring or bracelet for a matter of minutes can result in fatigue.

The heart meridian holds devastating consequences to life expectancy. The heart meridian reaches down both arms through the wrists and fingertips. Doctors say that people should be cautious when placing metal objects on either arm, but that the left arm is more sensitive since the heart is positioned in the left chest cavity. The connection of the left arm to the heart is also apparent in heart attack symptoms: One of the main initial symptoms is pain in the left arm.

A wristwatch worn on the left hand directly interferes with the heart meridian, and ultimately, the heart. How? The strong electromagnetic charges of the wristwatch conflict with subtle rhythm of the heart. If a person wears a watch for forty years, on their left wrist, their heart has endured thousands of hours of intrusive static.

The Solution
Doctors advise that you do not need to live in fear of your stylish mom watch or beloved nurse watch. Simply by switching your watch to the right wrist you are eliminating much of the risk. Another option is to put your watch in your pocket and pull it out as needed.

In addition to switching your watch from left hand to right, consider moving your jewelry too. You say you don't want to move your wedding ring? An understandable sentiment, but would your spouse want you to risk your life for the sake of tradition? Consider moving the ring to your right hand. Otherwise, eliminate as much metal jewelry as possible, and choose instead wooden, glass, or plastic jewelry.
